We're home!
We just got home from our three-week trip to La Palma.
What a beautiful island!
We took over 500 pictures (yay for the digital age!), so I have a hard time trying to decide what to show you all... I decided to start with a set of pictures from our first week. Later this week I will show you more from the 2nd and 3rd week. So here we go:
Our first 'casita' was incredible! The views, the space, the terrace...

We had this view pretty much every night:

And these friendly visitors (left: daytime visitors; right: nighttime visitors)

Near our house were these lava fields from an outbreak in 1949. The island has very fertile soil and so lots of pretty flowers and banana plantations (Bram LOVED the banana's! The scenes he made when he wanted one but had to wait a bit, like in the supermarket, phew!). The island is also famous for the clouds rolling over the mountainrange...

This is the vulcan 'San Antonio' in the south. On the right you can see the vulcan 'Teneguia' (as seen from San Antonio), which was responsible for the latest outbreak on the island in 1971.

The most famous crater however is the 'Caldera de Taburiente', which is an erosion crater. The highest peak (also the highest peak of the island) is 2426 m, and I guess the deepest point is almost at sea level.

Being a vulcanic island, the beaches are black, and there are beautiful rocky coastlines!

And this one was just too cute to leave out of the selection for this post (-:
